Justin Charles Cobb is an American investor, international business owner, entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He grew up in a small beach town outside of New York City and in 1997 he moved to New Orleans to study psychology at Loyola University. It was during these years Cobb became interested in the psychology of business and coaching and these skills are something that have stuck with him throughout his career.
After graduating with honors Cobb started working alongside an entrepreneur as an intern in his direct sales company. Starting out at the very bottom Cobb did field sales throughout the North-east of America. He credits this time as giving him the life-long skills to teach and develop other individuals.
“Ask any great entrepreneur, they have all done sales at some point. You hear some people say sometimes that they aren’t salespeople or that they aren’t cut out for sales. The reality is that business is sales…it is how a customer base and revenue is generated. It doesn’t matter what field you end up in, whatever the business, you’re going to have to learn to sell something whether it is a product or a service if you are going to become an entrepreneur. The skills I learned have shaped me as a business owner.”
After learning a wide range of skills working alongside business owners with much more experience, Cobb was keen to learn the ins and outs of business ownership on a more practical level. In 2004 Cobb started his first company in Charlotte, North Carolina. That company grew rapidly and in 2005 Cobb expanded his business to a further 7 cities in the southeast of America representing industry giants like the Atlanta Braves, Hilton Hotels, Papa John’s pizza, and Blockbuster Video. The unprecedented results they were delivering for those clients starting gaining them international attention and Cobb always had the intention of expanding overseas. After spending a few days with a business partner in the United Kingdom he felt that there was a huge gap in the market to offer clients an outsource sales option in the United Kingdom.
In 2007, Cobb took what many saw as being one of his riskier business exploits by taking the 10-hour flight from Atlanta, Georgia to London, England. Against the advice of market analysts, economists and even a few great marketing minds Cobb had decided that he would start again from scratch. The move turned out to be a tough but rewarding one. In just 2 years Cobb expanded was able to teach, train and coach 50 people to open up their own affiliate business around the UK working with clients in a host of different industries. Justin Cobb has never been one to allow himself to get comfortable and in 2009, looking for his next challenge, he set up central operations for Europe in Madrid, Spain. There was only one small hitch to Cobb’s plans… he didn’t speak the language! He started with a translator, but within the first year, having never spoken another language before, Justin became fluent in Spanish.
Cobb has honed in on his business development and business coaching skills in Europe and has helped 35 others to start their own businesses in Spain and Portugal in just 2 years. Since his move to the UK he has coached business owners to open 100 affiliate offices in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
Although the last 18 months have seen Cobb get married and start a family he hasn’t rested on his laurels. Plans are full speed ahead to expand into South America in the next 12 months starting with Brasil Peru and Argentina.
Aside from his personal business ventures, Cobb is intent on helping others, particularly young entrepreneurs and business owners.
“I was fortunate to get to where I am today because someone saw some potential in a 24-year-old graduate with minimal work experience. Sure I’ve put in a huge amount of hard work over the last 8 years but it all started with an opportunity. I want to offer that opportunity to others whether it be directly or indirectly.”
Cobb recently announced that he is setting up a leadership and entrepreneurship academy in 2012. The academy will allow him to help others develop their business skills and seek advice from a network of leaders and business owners as well as Cobb himself.
“This is an exciting project for me to develop with my team over the next 12 months and one that is incredibly close to my own heart. I started 8 years ago by myself doing outside face-to-face sales and have had the fortune of growing that business to a point where in 2012 we will do over $10,000,000 in business. I feel though that we are just scraping the surface of what is possible. There is something infectious about the excitement of new entrepreneurs and their ideas are far more adventurous than anything churned out by normal corporate environments. With the right coaching and the right advice, I hope to be able to help them realize their full potential.”
The leadership academy was a huge success, and capitalizing on this, Cobb took the decision to open up businesses in Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Poland.
“The European market is key to our strategy and what we do. It is a growing economy with a lot of ambitious people who can now get opportunities previous generations may not have had access to. We want to help them succeed.”
Cobb firmly believes that the younger generation are the business leaders of the future, so it makes sense to put extra effort into teaching young entrepreneurs the importance of great business strategies and customer service.
With this in mind, Cobb organized a special conference in Madrid, Spain, with six industry specialist speakers from the UK, USA and South Africa in attendance.
More than 2000 young entrepreneurs attended the conference. Delegates were able to listen to a range of interesting seminars, ask questions, and network. Everyone who attended the conference described it as an enormously positive experience.
Justin Cobb has traveled to South Africa, Brazil, Sweden, and Canada to pursue various business opportunities and talk at different events.
Despite being incredibly busy growing his business and imparting his knowledge to thousands of new entrepreneurs, he now has a growing family. He loves being a dad and credits his gorgeous kids as being the best thing that ever happened to him. He says his family is central to what keeps him motivated and his kids are his inspiration.
Most recently, Justin Cobb has moved to America and within the past 18 months opened up and partnered with other entrepreneurs in New York, Miami, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, and West Palm Beach. He is already enjoying great success and has plans to expand his operations across the whole of the United States.
Cobb says his goal over the next 18 months is to be running offices in every major State in the USA. It is an ambitious goal, but considering the level of success Cobb has already enjoyed, those in the know fully believe he has the capability to make it happen, so watch this space!
