How to Avoid Always Being Busy

Business / December 17, 2021

As an entrepreneur, you may find yourself wishing there were more hours in the day sometimes. Constantly feeling busy is a common complaint. But is it necessary to feel that way? Of course we only have limited time. We can’t create more. So that part is out of our control. What we can control is how we manage our time, and the things we focus on. At Justin Cobb Leadership Academy, we looked at some ways to manage those things.

Delegate and Save Time

No great leader does everything themselves. An understanding of when the right time to delegate is can change your life. Figure out where your talent is best focused, and figure out which of the people around you can better handle other tasks.

People aren’t the only targets for delegation these days. If you find yourself doing a lot of repetitive simple tasks sometimes, consider automation. It’s highly likely a software solution already exists to take the weight off your shoulders.

Plan Ahead

Sometimes when time is scarce, the first thing we sacrifice is the time we use to plan. But ironically, this may be losing us a lot more time. Having a clear idea of your to-do list and schedule for the day, means that you don’t have to feel pressured and lost. Especially when you have a lot to do.

Make sure to highlight the critical tasks you have to do for the day, and get them out of the way early. Often these are the tasks that end up not getting done, because they get swept under a lot of trivial tasks. Prioritizing them means you will always have the important things done and you won’t feel so busy

Embrace Imperfection

Not everything you do has to be perfect. Sometimes we spend twenty minutes doing a task, and then an hour trying to make sure it’s perfect. Consider whether you really need to worry about a couple of small mistakes, in the wider context of your workload. Save perfection for the things that really need it. Hyper-focusing on getting something perfect can waste a lot of time for minor reward.
