The Biggest Productivity Killers and How to Deal With Them

Business / July 12, 2019

As an entrepreneur, time is your number one asset. If you want to keep ahead of the competition and push your business to the next level, you will need as much of it as you can get. You will also need to make sure that your time is spent in the best way possible. Many things kill productivity and make it difficult to progress. We spoke to Justin Cobb about a couple of the most common ones, and how to combat them.

1. Meetings.

Meetings are one of the biggest potential time-wasting areas of your day. Of course, many are productive and help you to achieve your goals. However many are directionless, achieve nothing, and last way too long.

Make sure that every meeting you have has a clear goal, and that you have an idea what it will look like when you achieve that goal. If they don’t, then you don’t need a meeting. As well as this, you can work on shortening meetings and sticking to the plan. If it can’t be solved in ten minutes then the problem is probably bigger than the meeting.

2. Devices

The modern world is a world of distractions. With a communication device in our hands 24/7, how can we hope to concentrate and focus on tasks? Being ‘always connected’ can be a blessing and a curse for our productivity. We’ve all had that frustrating moment when a call interrupts our focus, and by the time we return to the task, we have lost our flow.

You need to take back control of your time and set aside times of the day in which you work uninterruptedly. Put your phone on silent, close your email client, and focus on the task at hand. The world won’t end because you reply to an email in 20 minutes instead of straight away.
